LTO-NCR: Over 5,000 Motorists Caught for Various Violations in 3rd Quarter of 2024

The intensified campaign against traffic violators by the LTO-NCR and its deputized personnel led to the apprehension of over 5,000 motorists in the third quarter of 2024.

LTO-NCR Regional Director Roque “Rox” I. Verzosa III revealed on Friday that 5,769 drivers were apprehended from July to September.

Verzosa disclosed that, according to the latest data from the LTO-NCR-RLES TSU (Regional Law Enforcement Service Traffic Safety Unit) under the leadership of Hanzley Lim and Rocilyn Villaruel, of the 5,769 motorists apprehended, 2,451 were cited for violations of Republic Act (RA) 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

This includes 355 cases involving unregistered motor vehicles, in accordance with the “No Registration, No Travel” policy.

Verzosa further highlighted that the largest group of violators, totaling 888 motorists, were apprehended for driving vehicles with defective accessories, devices, equipment, or parts.

Other significant violations included driving while wearing slippers (299), reckless driving (294), failure to carry Official Receipt (OR)/ Certificate of Registration (CR ) while driving (200), obstruction (136), driving without a valid license (123), illegal change of color (63), illegal change of body (51), excess passengers (42), and disregarding traffic signs (23).

During the same period, 1,625 motorists were apprehended for not using seat belt devices, a violation under Republic Act (R.A.) 8750. Additionally, 593 motorists faced penalties for not wearing standard protective motorcycle helmets as mandated by R.A. 10054. There were also 12 violations related to non-compliance with the Children Safety on Motorcycle Law (R.A. 10666) and six violations of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (R.A. 10913).

The report also emphasized that LTO-NCR deputized personnel from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) apprehended 727 drivers for various violations during the same period. These infractions included violations of Republic Act 8794 (Motor Vehicle User’s Charge), R.A. 8750 (Seat Belt Use), R.A. 10054 (Motorcycle Helmet Law), unregistered motor vehicles, and other related offenses.
